Royal Pop Wrist Conversion: What Size Strap Do I Need?

If you're converting your Royal Pop from a pocket watch to a wristwatch, one of the first questions you'll ask is: what size strap do I need? Here's the definitive answer.

The Short Answer

22mm. The RP Wrist Adapter uses a standard 22mm lug width. Any 22mm watch strap will work.

Why 22mm?

We chose 22mm for the adapter's lug width because it's the sweet spot for a 40mm case:

  • It's one of the most common strap sizes — the aftermarket selection is enormous
  • It provides good visual balance with the 40mm octagonal case
  • It's the same width used on many popular 40-42mm watches from Omega, Tudor, and others
  • The original Royal Oak uses 21mm — close enough that the proportions feel right

Will Any 22mm Strap Work?

Almost any. There are a few things to check:

Spring Bars

All RP Wrist Adapters use standard drilled lugs that accept regular spring bars. Quick-release spring bars (recommended) and traditional spring bars both work. RP Straps strap kits include quick-release bars for tool-free swapping.

Strap Thickness

Straps up to 4mm thick fit comfortably in the adapter's lugs. Most quality straps are 2.5-4mm, so this covers the vast majority of options.

End Links

If you're using a metal bracelet from another brand, the end links may not match the adapter's lug geometry. Our stainless steel bracelet kit is designed with matched end links. Third-party metal bracelets with flat or universal end links should work, but curved/fitted end links from other watch models won't.

Measuring Your Wrist

Beyond the strap width, you need to make sure the strap length fits your wrist:

  • Small wrists (5.5"-6.5" / 14-16.5cm): Standard length straps work. Our silicone strap has the widest range (5.5"-8.5").
  • Medium wrists (6.5"-7.5" / 16.5-19cm): All strap types fit perfectly at standard length.
  • Large wrists (7.5"-8.5" / 19-21.5cm): Silicone and steel bracelet have the most range. Leather straps may be tight at the last hole — contact us for long options.

Our Recommendation

If this is your first strap: start with silicone. It fits the widest range of wrist sizes, it's waterproof, and it's the most affordable option. You can always upgrade to leather or FKM later — the adapter works with any 22mm strap, so you're never locked in.
